US Army/USMC M1A2 TUSK tanks flip over too easily
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Using Vehicles 1.9.0, US Army/USMC M1A2 TUSK tanks flip over every time they are driven by AI, and crew disembarks. Flipping usually occurs on hard turns. M1A1 and other tanks are much more stable, so flipping is not a problem. Try attached mission, and change tank to M1A1 to see less frequent flipping.

Can M1A2 tank physics be changed so that flipping over occurs less often?

It still does this on even slightly slopped terrain, its like its extremely top heavy and its center of gravity is extremely high

Post Tanks Update:

meant to post this a week or so ago but here is an update from two perspectives, one person who has seen the bug before and one who hasn't:

Experienced with bug:

It looks like a drag car when you accelerate from a standstill, You can wheelie it. Flipped it, flat surface, around 50km/h. Yeah, you can flip it at 30km/h

Inexperienced with bug:

M1A1 doesn't seem to flip, tested on Shapur at around 65-67 kmh, the A2 doesn't flip either. M1A1 does not flip on downhill, although it slides easily, but that's to be expected. Tested the M1A2, flips, but takes some effort to do it you need to actively try and flop it around for it to happen

I'll test it later myself and give my perspective, perhaps a video too. It does appear that, flipping or not, the Abrams has a major weight issue.

Video of the bad physics

@Sparfell_19 Are you able to take a look at this?

@Apollo This is a warning.

  • No bumps of issues
  • Do not tag people specifically

Afaik tanks always had wonky physx under some circumstances (like turning fast left and right repeatedly or when the front/rear wheels had weird collisions with the terrain).
The video doesn't work anymore so i can't tell if that was your case.
If it's just flipping over in sharp turns then it might be something else.

@Chairborne It's definitely something to do with the Abrams specifically as none of the other tanks come close to this amount of weird physics. It's also not under any specific circumstances but just constantly. I don't have another video on hand atm cause after I saw someone else post on in here I scrapped the one I had (I can go record another one if needed) but, like I said in my last comment, it feels and looks like the Abrams has a really messed up power to weight ratio causing it to always be able to flip easily (especially if the AI drive it) and causing really hard braking. The M60 Patton has a similar thing but to much less extent and is much easier to control, though the Patton has other issues present after the Tanks DLC.

it was flipping over on flat ground on sharp turns. it has very different phsyx characteristics vs the std abrams.

well no wonder the physx is all over the place, the weight is all off, for some reason the M1A2 weights almost 90 tons wtf

Yeah the TUSK variant is all messed up. Also its armor values seem very extreme. I dont know if it ever had a proper pass done on it i think someone did a pass on the reg Abrams and the tusk never received any proper changes and testing.

Apollo, would you please stop ranting in bug reports and accusing us or our testers of not testing correctly. If you have a bug, report it, and it will eventually be fixed, no need for commentary or insults
This bug was about it toppling over, not it's armor

And don't get me wrong, I highly value your input and I appreciate constructive criticism.
