That's how it works in reality. Beam Rider missiles have their laser receiver in the rear and react to movement of the laser. It's basically like a TOW just with an "optical" cable. The idea of a single-seat gunship was quickly abandoned.

I was about to argue that due to the way ArmA behaves, it would be more accurate from how it handles to make it laser guided even if it's not technically accurate, but then as I began doing research on the subject. Apparently the vikhr's laser receiver faces the carrier aircraft which means it literally can't see what's in front of it. So yeah, you're correct.
You're either not loading CUP Terrains Core, or one of the files in CUP Terrains Core was corrupted during a download.
The Vikhr is correctly simulated. It's a beam riding SACLOS missile, not capable of being directed with a laser designator like a maverick or laser guide bomb.

9M121 VIKHR are incorrectly coded with SACLOS when they should be laser guided. See also https://dev.cup-arma3.org/T4772
I'd be content just having an ejection seat in the first place. It doesn't gotta be fancy. Rotor and canopy blowing off would be cool but it's not necessary to me.

It certainly seems unintended, I hope they address this.
Might be an issue with a non-convex component. I need to re-install the Diag binary to see if that gives a hint

Yeah, even with only CUP mods installed the machine gun bullets whizz through parts of the left side of the M1A1 tank turret as if it wasn't there, even with [player] spawn BIS_fnc_traceBullets; on.

try the royal saharani orlando tank with a handful of mods with the bullet tracer on and randomly shoot at it on the left side of the turret, about 10 rounds. see if you get anything
could it be the porthole view is different to the gun being fired so they're missing?
not sure what's causing it. seems like the gun is firing in a different place to what's being aimed at
maybe the viewing hole is in a different position to the turret?
some still go through with only cup but not as many
going to try with only cup mods now
