Коробка передач – автоматическая гидромеханическая реверсивная. Поток мощности от двигателя распределяется на два параллельных потока по бортам машины. Посредством гидрообъемной передачи обеспечивается разность скоростей вращения по бортам, что позволяет в дополнение к повороту четырех передних колес выполнять разворот «по-танковому». В результате удалось вдвое уменьшить радиус поворота БТР-90 по сравнению с предшествующими машинами. В сочетании с возможностью движения БТР вперед и назад с одинаковой скоростью за счет реверсивной КПП удалось весьма существенно увеличить его маневренные характеристики.
